Portfolio mobile - Stock Tracking & Market Analysis App Reviews
Bought this hoping to track multiple portfolios. The program forces you to set up an account with the developer regardless of whether you want to sync to another device or not, which doesnt exactly thrill me. I created multiple portfolios, used the program for a day, restarted the program the next day and two of my portfolios had disappeared. That was a lot of work that Portfolio Mobile just wiped out. The program does an odd job sorting -- ETFs and stocks are sorted differently for example -- and the display font is ridiculously small. This might improve with age, but right now I would pass it up. Very expensive for this level of frustration and shoddiness. Usually I wait to see what other reviewers say before jumping in. This was another $20 lesson in sticking to my principles. Pass this one up for now.
Warning This app requires you to register with a third party site in order to follow personal investments. No where in the general Description is this mentioned, it is hidden in the drop down and I quote "OFX required." First what is OFX? The failure to explain this leaves this app open to the alligations an app builder does not want. If you do not create and account the only feature of this app that the user can fully use is the ablity to watch a stock. A feature that all mac users already have. Dont waste the time or money, Stay Away.
I have using this app for months and I do like it. Once time I had some questions regarding the function and sent an email to the developer. The respond was very quick and well. Great job.
This application offers a great foundation for portfolio management. It displays detailed information about security performance, portfolio performance, and sychronizes directly with your financial institution via OFX. I have yet to find another app with all these features or with the great detail displayed using this app. Sorry, Officer Happy, but you are a moron as you couldnt have spent more than 60 seconds testing the application before shredding it. Everything you have stated is wrong or based in ignorance that could have been resolved with a simple Google search. In fact, OFX is one of the great strengths of this application. It is too bad that others failed to do their research and found your invalid review helpful. That said, there is a lot of room for improvement and it is still a bit buggy but you can easily contact the Dev and get things fixed. What the app does well: 1. Synchronize with your brokerages automatically via OFX 2. Display detailed information about each security and compare to an index 3. Show detailed portfolio performance and comare to an index 4. Collect portfolios and combine performance. This is great when you have a bunch of different brokerages/accounts. 5. Display alerts and news 6. Simple charting
For such a pricey app, there are way too many bugs for this to be useful in the real world. The latest of a series of problems i am encoungtering is a bizarre pie chart consisting of jibberish, with strange numbers like 4295%. I have wasted way too much time trying to fix that on my end with no luck. I may re-install after a few updates which, I hope, address this and way too many other glitches for me to type here. Keep tryin, fellows.
I had it syncing ok at one point, it refuses to sync with schwab Wasted $25 , i like the interface and features, fix the sync issue and I will be happy.
This ap is one of the best tools out there but still needs inprovement. Portfolio calculations needs to update faster.( Not quotes) iCloud integration is needed. Reports needs to be improved. Add a report showing the diversification e.g. Create graphs for reports. Charts needs to be improved, interactive, zoomable charts for stocks instead of pictures from websites… UPDATE: Bugs are not getting better, and actually getting worse. I decided to switch to another software.
I use all three platform versions, iPhone, iPad, and iMac. They have proven themselves an asset in managing 8 investment accounts. Syncing across the platform is effortless using cloud storage. The few times I have needed customer support Bare Reefs response has been spot on and timely, hours not days. They help me make money and that is what I need them to do.
My husband and I are both very active private investors. We use this app all the time and find it very helpful and useful. The latest update gives even more tools and information. I highly recommend this app. I have only ever rated one other app.
Ive experimented with several portfolio tracking apps and Portfolio Mobile is the best Ive tried. It does what it says. Unlike some apps, it allows direct download from your financial institutions. Another awesome feature is that it displays performance from YTD as well as over 1, 2, 3, 5 years as well as over your accounts lifetime. All are available on a per portfolio and all portfolio basis. It boggles my mind as to why other apps dont do this. Regarding other reviewers who claim registration with a third party is required to use the app are simply wrong. The app works just fine without it. The online syncing feature is used for syncing between other computers and iOS devices. Its also used to export your data. Log in credentials for your accounts not stored on the web but in your computers keychain. (I asked the developer about this.) Also, OFX is not required. CSV works as well, which I prefer because it is readable by Excel and Numbers.
Great app
The new distribution charts are great!
This app is full of bugs. Every time I synced with my brokerage I got different numbers. Trades that were closed a long time ago still appear in my portfolio and in some cases, still appear on the pie chart as though the position is still active. The program has crashed twice in less than 24 hours. The first time my brokerage account was deleted and the second time, the pie chart showing my positions changed drastically. I could go on and on, but have already wasted enough time, and sadly, money. Apart from the bugs, why cant I expand the chart to look at my porfolios performace and select different time periods to focus on? If this is possible, it is far from obvious. There is a lot of potential for improvement, but if you buy this app now, you will waste your time and money.
I love this app! I manage a number of different trading accounts and have utilized professional software that is far more expensive than this product. However, I find myself tracking more and more trades in Portfolio Mobile because it is simple, straight forward, easy to use, and portable. Recent updates have added functionality for portfolio allocation and balancing that is pretty handy. At first, I was a little reluctant to use the web update feature because I was not sure how secure it was/is. The work around for us was pretty easy by simply not downloading directly from the brokers; hence no identifying account data is disclosed. We used the web synch to simply upload and download to keep all of our devices updated. This has been handy for us as I simply upload the updated file and my husband is able to download it to his device, wherever he is. I also like that it provides a bit of redundancy by having the data reside on multiple devices that are easily updated. I would recommend this product to anyone interested in managing one or more portfolios.
App crashes, menu items fail to respond, loses price history and fails to reload history, unable to display charts, support nonexistent, website has displayed outdated user guide for months and replaced it with clickable user guide that is useless in dealing with issues. Shouldnt have to contact developer to solve problems that should be simple solutions.
I have tried 10+ different Mac OSX and iOS stock portfolio management applications and Portofolio mobile is by far the best. It synchronizes accross all of my Mac and iOS devices, it is easy to update and administer and it has a wealth of information, all in one place. I now use it as my primary stock research and portfolio management tool as it is better than what is offered by most of the online stock brokerage sites that I have seen. It easily earns a solid five stars.
Useless app. Confusing. The help is terrible. I finally uninstalled after so much frustration and using now stockmarketeye which is much easier to use and mac friendly.
Not worth the money
Complicated app to use. User Guide is dated 2011. I wasted way too much time trying to set it up and feel my way around the app. Don’t buy!
